Character Background:
If I wasn't the one writing for her, Eleanor would probably be a bit of a Mary Sue type of character. I didn't really get that impression of her during the game, but mostly she only appears this way if you strip away all of the development that goes into her character. It’s important to know where she came from before you look into her personality.
(History)
Eleanor Lamb was raised by a psychopath, basically. Her mother tried to raise her to be her own little clone, trying to embed her ideals into her little girl from the womb. She was already very smart, though, even without her mother's lecturing. Still, she disliked her lonely life, and resented her mother's restrictions and isolation of her from other children. She came up with creative ways to escape her mother's eyes, though, and often snuck away to meet the other children in Rapture.
After her mother was arrested by Andrew Ryan, Eleanor was raised by Grace Holloway until Stanley Poole had her kidnapped and put into an orphanage for the Little Sister program. He was worried she'd rat him out as a spy for Ryan inside Sofia Lamb's cult in Dionysus Park, so he made sure she wouldn't be able to give him away. As a result of this arrangement, Eleanor was one of the first girls turned into a Little Sister, and the first to achieve a successful pair-bond with her Protector, Subject Delta. As a consequence, she has a special bond with all the Little Sisters that came after her. She also grew very close to Subject Delta, either as a result of their mutual trauma or as a result of mental conditioning, and they were as happy together as either of them could have been.
Eventually, when her mother escaped from prison, she naturally tracked down her daughter, had her kidnapped again, and had Delta kill himself in front of the girl. Over the course of the next few years, they managed to undo her Little Sister conditioning, but they couldn't get the sea slug out of her without killing her. As her mother descended further into cultist dogma, she focused on Eleanor as her following's new savior. She began injecting ADAM into the girl in an attempt to imbue her with the minds of Rapture's geniuses, even though the process had driven Gil Alexander to madness. Eleanor started acting out more and more, using the new Little Sisters taken from the surface to carry out her plans to bring back Subject Delta to save her. As Delta progressed through the events of the game, Eleanor cheered him on and assisted him through other Little Sisters.
Through Delta's merciful actions to the game's NPCs and to the Little Sisters, Eleanor's moral fibers were truly formed. Just when the two are about to be reunited, Eleanor's mother proceeds with a last ditch effort to separate them by smothering Eleanor just long enough to stop her heart. This breaks the pair bond between her and Delta, which starts the Big Daddy off into a coma. When Delta is incapacitated, Eleanor sends him a plasmid to control a Little Sister and retrieve for her a Big Sister suit. Once she puts it on, she comes to save him, commenting on how she still thinks of him in shining armor (insinuating she herself is now wearing "shining armor", and in the minds of the Little Sisters, she might as well be). She proves herself a worthy ally, and uses the ADAM she's absorbed over the years to teleport and fight.
At her Father's side, Eleanor works to free the remaining Little Sisters and manages to escape from Rapture. Unfortunately, Delta is not so lucky. As he begins to fade when they all reach the surface, Eleanor uses her Big Sister needle to extract his ADAM and essentially absorb his life force into herself, so they could be together forever. The ending insinuates that she and the Little Sisters return to live on the surface.
(Personality)
Really, Eleanor is still just a kid, a 16-year-old whose only real way to rebel against her overbearing mother was to become a superhero (more of a sidekick, really, if you consider Delta the hero). She doesn't like self-absorbed people or anyone who goes around saying they know more about what people need than the people themselves. She's a little suspicious of adults, but because of Delta she's learned not to judge people purely by their actions. Still, despite her enhanced intelligence, agility, and abilities, Eleanor is prone to the same problems any teenager would experience. Insecurity, social awkwardness, hormonal confusion, etc. She never had the benefit of a proper childhood, so her interactions are likely to be rocky at first.
Due to her experiences with the Little Sisters, Eleanor adores little girls. They're all essentially sisters to her, and she'll fight to protect them. She also likes tinkering with gadgets and devices; she taught herself how to take things apart and put them back together as a child, and used those skills to sabotage her mother's security systems whenever she would sneak out. Her Big Sister suit has a special meaning to her, too. Being in it reminds her of Delta, and she comments on how she still associates the suits with shining armor.
Abilites/Special Powers: Basically, she has limited telekinetic and pyrokinetic powers, teleportation, and increased athletic capabilities. To a lesser extent, she supposedly contains trace amounts of the minds of several of Rapture's geniuses due to her absorption of their ADAM over the years. This procedure didn't get finished, though, so I won't be playing too far into it. She's just clever, is all I'm going with until I can work something more interesting out of it.
Third-Person Sample:
The sun. The sun felt so warm and loving. The little girls she and her Father had saved played together on top of the escape vessel while she floated on her back in the water. Her hair floated around her head as she stared at the sky. It felt so different not to have an oppressing ceiling hanging over your head at all times, to feel the sun on her skin after so many years.
She was finally free. Free from Rapture, free to pursue her own life and goals, to look after the little ones and ensure they never had to go back to that dark and miserable place. Maybe, just maybe, she could even return them to their homes and let them have their lives back. It was something she herself could never have – a normal life – but these girls each deserved a chance to have one. The water felt cold but refreshing as it lapped up against her, but the warmth of the sun calmed her completely. It felt like the warmth she’d always felt in Father’s presence, the kind of warmth that meant she wasn’t alone. And now that she and her Father were together, his ADAM inside her, she would never have to be alone again.
Still, though… There was the issue of her Mother. Sofia Lamb, the cause of all of this… Eleanor’s warm bliss faltered at the thought of having to confront her mother again after all that had happened. She’d almost been willing to let the woman drown, but she knew Father wouldn’t have wanted her to let things go that way. Still… What could she say? “Sorry for ruining your maniacal schemes and not letting you turn me into your psychotic messiah, Mother? Shall we go frolic in the daylight together now?” The woman had been willing to smother her, literally and figuratively. How on earth could she possibly reconcile with her after that?
Perhaps the best thing to do would be to simply… not reconcile it. She could just take the girls and go, leaving her mother to think about what she’d done. Perhaps she could leave a note about putting her in time out to be cheeky about it. She eventually decided this would just be asking for trouble, and she swam up to the edge of the ship to rejoin the girls. They had been painting a halo and wings around Delta’s body while she was busy thinking, and the gesture forced her to turn away to keep from crying in front of the children. Still, she couldn’t help but smile. With a wipe of her eyes, she gestured for the girls to come together so they could discuss their plans of returning to shore. They all had a future ahead of them, and Eleanor would make sure they could meet it with open arms.

[There’s a room, mostly empty, except for a patchwork doll with a bubble head sitting on the bed. Next to it is a strange diving helmet, with little fish designs scrawled on the back of it, and some gloves with large needles attached. The camera seems to be moving a little, like someone’s monkeying around with it. Occasionally it passes over body parts, showing pieces of a lithe, gangly body inside of an old-fashioned diving suit. It’s a little difficult to tell from the quickly moving adjustments of the camera, like someone keeps flipping it around, turning it on and off, but the hands seem female. After a moment, the motion stops and the person seems to notice the device is on. The camera then pans to center on a young-looking face, belonging to a girl of maybe 16 or 17.]
Oh! It’s working! You’ve got magic hands, Eleanor! No, wait, focus, Eleanor, focus, more important things right now! Got to find the girls! And… find out where I am…
[The dark-haired girl brushes back some wet bangs and looks around the room again.]
It’s too dry to be Rapture… I can’t feel them anymore… No. Stop it. You’ll find them, just… Stay calm and look…
[She clears her throat and addresses the video screen, not sure if she’s been transmitting this whole time]
Um, hello? Is this reaching anyone? I’m afraid I don’t quite know how I ended up here, or where exactly “here” is…
